WOD 2 Snatches - what's a good 15kg jump? lol

SNATCH time! Definitely one of the hardest movements I've had to learn and that's exactly what we got for the 2012 Crossfit Games WOD 2.

Going from burpees to snatches is a pretty big jump but the jump between weights is worse. Here's the details, current results and my plan.

So if you're not keen on watching the video or you just want to see the metric version here it is.

It's a 10 minute AMRAP (as many reps as possible) and has to go in the order written below, you use one bar and change your own weights.

30 reps at lbs Men:75 Women: 45 kgs 35/20
30 reps at lbs M: 135 W: 75 kgs 60/35
30 reps at lbs M: 165 W: 100 kgs 75/45
max reps lbs M: 210 W: 120 kgs 95/55

The bar/weights must either be on the ground or below your knees at the start of the movement and your legs and arms must be straight and the weight has to be under control overhead. Its one movement from the ground to overhead no stop at your shoulders. It can be a muscle snatch, power snatch, squat snatch or split snatch.

Results in Australian region so far

Top men: 98 reps
Top women: 90 reps

That's a lot of movement! My biggest hurdle will be the jump from 20kg to 35kg. So we're going from a warm up weight to about my 1 rep max. If only I could have a few reps at 30kg. Darn it.

So prior to my workout I'm going to practice my snatch to a heavy weight otherwise starting out cold it would just be too much of a jump. This way in theory I will know I can do it before the workout.

Second take it in sets of 10 reps so I don't get exhausted.

If I continue to fail at 35kg I'll practice my snatch pulls then try again and as a last resort I will work my way up 2.5kg at a time. After all the first 30 should be easy right? It'll only take me a few minutes.

If I do a few 35kgs I will be happy.

45kg I'm dreaming but you never know.

Who could have guessed snatches? Apparently the guys at Crossfit Northside, only hours before the workout we were practicing our snatch pulls and balance. Mine was 55kg for the pull and 30 for the balance in a full squat position. Should be alright hey.

Straight after I'm heading to a music festival so I'll try to post my results on Sunday.

Also for next week one movement per WOD will it be a pattern for the open workouts I guess we'll need another week to tell.
